Visual Arts

Some students cannot be fully understood without a display of their work in the visual arts.  Some schools offer personal portfolio day when the student can bring their actual work to be reviewed, but more often a student will send in images burned to a CD or added as a web site linked with the students online Application.

If you are interested in submitting a portfolio, you should go talk to your counselor and your art teacher because they would have experience in setting up a portfolio.

Common Application Portfolios Require an Art Teacher recommendation therefore, you should contact an art teacher to work with.

A Portfolio should be between 10-20 images (no more than 20) and should be examples of your most outstanding work.  Work with a teacher to select the works because they should be solid with good composition, some degree of finish, imagination and expressiveness.  Trust your teachers, they know what they're doing!

The Arts

If you plan on majoring in dance, drama or music you will most likely be expected to attend an audition, either on a college campus or regionally.

Make sure you read carefully through any audition information you receive.

Some programs will allow you to submit a recording of a student's performance, but live auditions are always best.

Again, contact your counselor and music teacher for more information if you are planning to major in a performing art.
